Traveling with kids can be quite challenging and if you are travelling by plane, there are many situations, you do not feel comfortable sometimes. Your kid is full of energy, wants to jump around, but on plane, they have to be still for some time and all the extra space you can get on the plane, can save you some hard times. I understand completely, we have been there and it is quite demanding to “survive”. When you travel with children with an airplane, check the following:
1. Do you need a transfer and change planes? If yes, how long do you have between flights? How big is the transfer airport?
Check the gates of your arrival and new departure – if you have enough time to catch your next plane. On the airport website find the map of the airport and try to calculate the time you need for transit. Some airport websites also have calculated time already; you just need to check it. According to the time needed, decide, if this is suitable and manageable for you (and especially your child) to handle.
How do you explain a child the question where did we come from and where we go after death? With the help of traveling and space here is a suggestion, how you can tell a story. Read the full post (429 words, 1 image, estimated 1:50 mins reading time)
1. Are there children playing areas?
When we are looking for our next destination, the children playground areas are one of “must have destination” issues. It of course depends of the child’s age. Most children like to play and most also like the company. With socializing on the playground, you help your child to set the fundamentals for further ability to make a contact with another child or latter, other people. And it is true, a playground is also a very sociable place for parents – you have the opportunity to meet new people and you never know when you meet somebody interesting, maybe a new business partner or just a very good friend.
If you love to travel, do not hesitate to reward yourself. So make a decision and go travelling with children, it’s a lot of fun.
And when is the right time to start traveling with your child? When it feels right for you. And when you will feel it, the confidence will come. Self-confidence is a major factor when traveling with your children. You attract and you give your energy – if you are scared, your child will be too, therefore the self-confidence is vital.
Here are some games we play and help us “kill the time” on a plane or in a car, suitable for younger children:
• Games with hands
Rock, paper, scissors
• Games with letters
Who can remember any fruit on the letter A, B, C,……….
Who can remember any vegetable on the letter A, B, C, ….
Who can remember “anything you define” on the letter, A, B, C, …..Z
Who can count how many letters A are in the word Potato,….
Who can count how many letters X are in the word X
The safety of YOU and YOUR CHILD is very important, therefore I recommend you that always you are driving a car and your babies or children are with you, you follow these “rules”:
1. ALWAYS, but really ALWAYS have your eyes on the road. If child loses his/her toys and are screaming and crying – DO NOT EVER TRY TO PICK UP THE TOY WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. That could be dangerous for YOU and YOUR CHILD – the second of not paying attention and the accident could be here. There were so many stories that mom or dad was picking up a toy while driving and the second after there was a car accident – the child survived, but the parent died. You will be no use to your child dead!!!
Here are a few things that could help:
•avoid large heavy meal at least one hour before the drive,
•have in the car some light snacks or just bread (as much as it sounds strange, but only chewing bread helped us),
•have with you a lot of water,
•try to avoid huge activities before the drive,
•if you have longer drive, try to plan it over the night when you child can sleep,
•if nothing helps, have with you enough bags, if you will not have the possibility to stop the car safely.
Ask yourself these questions before you turn around with the hand break 🙂 It could save you a lot of time. Do you ever turn your car around because you or somebody from the family forgot to take something with you?
How many times did you turn your car around so far :-)?
Did you ever travel and your bag got lost on the way?
Or even better – did you forget one of your packed bags at home, when you left home to go to your finally well-deserved holidays?
Here is a tip how to solve this situation – I call it MIXED PACKING and you can do it in a pre-traveling phase.
Fast transfer at the airport is cruical when you are travelling with children. Most of the time it can be quite challanging to catch your next flight with a young child. You are all exhausted, toddlers can be quite tired and you are having the last drop of your energy. Here are some tips how to survive this challange and save some time and energy.
Do you remember when you were little and you squeezed between parents for a bedtime story?
BOOKS ARE WONDERFUL. You agree? Books are one of the most imaginative tools which could bring you beyond your wild imagination and your dream. Offer that experience to your CHILD. They will be grateful.
Do you sometimes feel that you are in a trap and every day is the same like yesterday?
A short getaway would do miracles to your soul and health. What are you waiting for? Just DO IT. We adults are funny, usually we find a thousand reasons why not to do something or why not to go somewhere, because it is to dangerous or too exhausting for our children… That of course is just an excuse. 🙂 We just do not want to admit it – and that includes me also :-).
If you feel you need a short getaway, here are 5 suggestions where you can go for a day trip:
Toys are just enviable to bring along almost everywhere you go, even if you go to a nearby store to buy groceries. But we have a rule – toys always wait for us in the car. You already have much to do with the groceries and kids, you do not want to carry around a 5 feet tall teddy bear, because your child gave up to carry it.
Do you remember yourself when you were 4 years old? How did you look on the world? Were you explorer? Trying to figure out all new things, climbing on a tree, hiding under the table, running around the street freely, riding your bike?
Do you like winter time? Why not travel in winter time. Maybe for some might sounds like impossible, but your children really do not mind traveling anytime, as long as they are with YOU.
Could you imagine your children to stay still for 5 minutes and wait in the queue? Could you imagine that for an hour?
Most children could have difficulties to stand still and wait in the line for check in and so could you, with all the bags, luggage, other passengers and crowd plus feeling excited about the flight…
Some airports have self-check-in machines. Think in front if this option is ok for you – will your child stay still not running around, will your child give you “place” and wait that you focus on checking in?
Sometimes you do not have the other option so here are few suggestions:
If you have enough time on the airport while changing the plains – transfer – find the gate that has no flight – usually there is a lot of free space and not many people, so your children can run around without having a guilty feeling that you are bothering other passengers.
You have a few options.
Option 1: Classical
You go to check in and they check you inn as they usually check in the families. If you ask and tell them your wishes, they are usually kind enough to satisfy your wishes.
